Tongyu Zhu
诸彤宇
Tongyu Zhu is an Associate Professor at the School of Computer Science and Engineering, Beihang University (BUAA). He graduated from the Department of Engineering Mechanics, Tsinghua University, with a Bachelor’s degree in 1992, and received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Software and Theory from Beihang University in 2010. He previously worked at the China Academy of Civil Aviation Science and Technology. In January 2003, he joined the National Key Laboratory of Software Development Environment at Beihang University.
During his tenure in the civil aviation sector, Dr. Zhu primarily focused on research in the field of civil aviation flight safety. As a key researcher and technical lead, he received the following awards: the Second Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2000 (ranked 4th), the First Prize of the Ministerial-Level Science and Technology Progress Award in 1999 (ranked 4th), the Second Prize of the Ministerial-Level Science and Technology Progress Award in 2001 (ranked 4th), and the Third Prize of the Ministerial-Level Science and Technology Progress Award in 1996 (ranked 6th).
Since joining Beihang University, Dr. Zhu has been engaged in research on intelligent transportation systems, smart cities, domain-oriented data mining, and artificial intelligence. He has led nearly 70 research projects of various types, including projects under the 863 Program and the National Key Research and Development Program, with cumulative research funding exceeding 40 million RMB. He received the Second Prize of the National Award for Technological Invention in 2016 (ranked 2nd), the First Prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award of the China Highway and Transportation Society in 2010 (ranked 2nd), the First Prize of the Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Award in 2010 (ranked 2nd), and the First Prize of the Civil Aviation Science and Technology Progress Award in 2017 (ranked 6th). He has published over 70 papers, including more than 30 CCF- or SCI-indexed papers as first author or corresponding author.
In the area of teaching, Dr. Zhu directs the core graduate course “Principles of Programming Languages” for the School of Computer Science and Engineering, and lectures on the core undergraduate course “Object-Oriented Design and Construction” (a First-Class Undergraduate Course). He received the Second Prize of the BUAA Teaching Achievement Award in 2020 (ranked 6th).
